Teams that qualify for the Olympics in men’s soccer are limited in their squad selections: All players must be 23 or younger except three — called overage players — on the roster. US coach Marko Mitrović chose Arlington’s Miles Robinson (27), who plays for Cincinnati; 31-year-old Walker Zimmerman, who plays for Nashville SC; and Djordje Mihailovic (25), who plays for Colorado.

Paxten Aaronson

Age: 20

Club team: Eintracht Frankfurt (Bundesliga, Germany)

Hometown: Medford, N.J.

Aaronson, who began playing for the Philadelphia Union Academy as a young teenager before moving onto the club’s MLS Next Pro team and eventually the big-league club, made his debut with the senior national team at 19. He joined Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in 2023 and will spend next season on loan in the Netherlands with FC Utrecht. His older brother, Brenden, appeared as a midfielder in 42 matches for the men’s national team.

Taylor Booth

Age: 23

Club team: FC Utrecht (Eredivisie, Netherlands)

Hometown: Eden, Utah

A soon-to-be teammate of Aaronson’s at Utrecht, Booth has been playing in Europe since joining German powerhouse Bayern Munich’s academy from Real Salt Lake in 2019. He only played once for Bayern’s first team before moving to Utrecht in 2022, where he’s scored eight goals in 49 appearances. He’s represented the US at a number of youth levels from under-16 all the way to the senior team, earning his first international cap in a 2023 CONCACAF Nations League match against Grenada.

Duncan McGuire

Age: 23

Club team: Orlando City SC (MLS)

Hometown: Omaha, Neb.

After playing two seasons at Creighton, McGuire was selected sixth in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft. He helped Orlando City reach the MLS Cup semifinals with 13 goals and three assists in 29 matches. McGuire has made one appearance for the senior national team, coming on as a substitute in a January friendly loss to Slovenia.

Kevin Paredes

Age: 21

Club team: VfL Wolfsburg (Bundesliga, Germany)

Hometown: South Riding, Va.

His club career started with DC United’s USL team before making his MLS debut in 2020, when he was 17. He moved to the Bundesliga in 2022, joining VfL Wolsburg, where Paredes has scored four goals over two seasons and 50 appearances. Paredes was added to the US Olympic team after making three appearances with the senior team, his first coming in a September 2023 friendly. Paredes was voted the 2023 US Soccer Young Male Player of the Year.

Griffin Yow

Age: 21

Club team: KVC Westerlo (Belgian Pro League, Belgium)

Hometown: Clifton, Va.

Yow scored during his youth national team debut at the 2018 U-17 International Youth Tournament and netted seven goals that year in 12 U-17 matches. He played for DC United and its USL team from 2019 to 2022 before being transferred to KVC Westerlo in Belgium’s first division. Yow has tallied seven goals and seven assists in 34 appearances in Belgium. In March, Yow joined the under-23 team for three matches and recorded one goal.

Gianluca Busio

Age: 22

Club team: Venezia (Serie A, Italy)

Hometown: Greensboro, N.C.

At 16, Busio became the second-youngest player to sign with an MLS team after joining Sporting Kansas City’s roster in 2017. There, he made 39 starts and netted seven goals and eight assists over four years before joining Venezia in Italy’s top division in 2021. Venezia fell to Serie B in 2022; Busio’s seven goals and four assists this past season helped the club get promoted back to Serie A. Busio has made 13 appearances with the US men’s national team, scoring one goal, since he debuted in July 2021 during the Gold Cup at 19. He made two starts in the Gold Cup during the group stage.

Benjamin Cremaschi

Age: 19

Club team: Inter Miami (MLS)

Hometown: Miami

Cremaschi is the youngest player on the team, and is the only member of this squad who will be age eligible for the 2028 Olympics (he was born in March 2005). Side-by-side with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami, Cremaschi totaled five goals and seven assists last season. He contributed to Miami’s Leagues Cup victory in 2023 with an assist and a goal. With two Argentinian parents, Cremaschi is eligible to represent both countries, and attended an Argentina under-20 training camp in late 2022.

Jack McGlynn

Age: 21

Club team: Philadelphia Union (MLS)

Hometown: Middle Village, N.Y.

McGlynn made his under-23 team debut in October 2023 after 21 matches and goals with the under-20 squad. He earned his first USMNT cap in January in a friendly loss to Slovenia. He has three goals and five assists in 18 starts with the Union in the MLS this season.

Djordje Mihailovic

Age: 25

Club team: Colorado Rapids (MLS)

Hometown: Jacksonville, Fla.

Mihailovic is one of three overage players. He started his professional career in Chicago with the Fire before landing with Colorado, where he’s totaled 10 goals and nine assists this year. He made his senior national team debut in 2019, scoring a goal in his first cap against Panama that January.

Tanner Tessmann

Age: 22

Club team: Venezia (Serie A, Italy)

Hometown: Birmingham, Ala.

Tessmann originally committed to Clemson to play soccer and football, but opted to sign with FC Dallas as a homegrown player in early 2020. In 2021, he was movedto Italy, playing 20 matches in Serie A before Venezia was relegated to Serie B a year later. Since then, he has tallied 10 goals and five assists in 74 matches as Venezia has played its way back to the top tier. Tessmann made his senior national team debut in 2021.

Maximilian Dietz

Age: 22

Club team: Greuther Fürth (2. Bundesliga, Germany)

Hometown: New York City

Dietz has spent his entire club career in Germany, joining Greuther Fürth in 2023. He’s yet to make his senior national team debut but has competed in six international friendlies since making his under-23 team debut in October 2023.

Nathan Harriel

Age: 23

Club team: Philadelphia Union (MLS)

Hometown: Oldsmar, Fla.

Harriel’s professional career flourished in the Philadelphia Union system, and he made his MLS debut in 2021. He’s been called up to the national team (January 2024) but hasn’t earned his first cap yet; most of his international experience came with the under-23 team. He’s netted one goal.

Miles Robinson

Age: 27

Club team: FC Cincinnati (MLS)

Hometown: Arlington

One of the three overage players for the US, the Massachusetts native played with local club FC Boston Bolts before playing at Syracuse for two seasons. He was drafted by Atlanta in 2017 and signed with Cincinnati this offseason. Robinson was first selected for the senior national team in 2019. He scored the game-winning goal in the Gold Cup Final for the Americans in 2021 and became a mainstay in the senior national team, but an Achilles’ tear in 2022 saw him much of that season and that year’s World Cup. He did not see any time during the Americans’ 2024 Copa run.

John Tolkin

Age: 21

Club team: New York Red Bulls (MLS)

Hometown: Chatham, N.J.

Tolkin made his national team debut in 2023 and appeared in two 2023 Gold Cup matches for the Americans. He was named an MLS All-Star in 2023 by DC United coach Wayne Rooney. He’s helped the Red Bulls to three playoff berths since joining the club in 2020 as a homegrown player, tallying 18 assists and eight goals in that time.

Caleb Wiley

Age: 19

Club team: Chelsea (Premier League, England)

Hometown: Atlanta

Wiley began his professional career with his hometown Atlanta United, totaling six goals and seven assists in his first three seasons. On Monday, Chelsea executed a deal to land the left back on a six-year deal worth around $9.2 million. Wiley is expected to be loaned to Ligue 1 side Strasbourg. He made his senior team debut in April 2023 and played 13 minutes off the bench against Slovenia in January. He was a member of the 2023 under-20 World Cup team, scoring one goal in five appearances.

Walker Zimmerman

Age: 31

Club team: Nashville SC (MLS)

Hometown: Lawrenceville, Ga.

Zimmerman, the oldest player on the team, has played on the senior national team since 2017 and started three matches in the 2022 World Cup. He won MLS Defender of the Year awards in 2020 and 2021 and was named to the MLS Best XI from 2019-2021. He attended Furman for two years before signing with FC Dallas in 2013.

Goalkeepers

Gaga Slonina

Age: 20

Club team: Chelsea (Premier League, England)

Hometown: Addison, Ill.

Slonina made his senior team debut in a January 2023 friendly when he was 18, making him the youngest goalkeeper to start for the US men. At the under-20 World Cup in 2023, he recorded four clean sheets, nine saves, and one goal against. At 17, he became the youngest goalkeeper to start an MLS match with the Chicago Fire. Slonina spent three years with Chicago before being sent on loan by Chelsea (which signed him for around $10 million in 2022) to Eupen in the Belgian Pro League for the 2023 season, returning to Chelsea last month.

Patrick Schulte

Age: 23

Club team: Columbus Crew (MLS)

Hometown: St. Charles, Mo.

Schulte has one cap with the senior national team, appearing in a friendly earlier this year. He signed with the Columbus Crew in 2022. This season, he’s allowed 17 goals in 19 games and kept seven clean sheets. Schulte also spent two years playing for Saint Louis University.

How to watch the US Olympic men’s soccer team

Sixteen men’s national teams — all 23-and-under with the exception of three players on each roster — qualify for the Olympics. The US is in Group A, with France, Guinea, and New Zealand. The Americans will play a game against each of their group opponents (three points for a win, one for a tie), with the top two teams from each group advancing to the knockout stage.

Olympic soccer games will be held at stadiums across France: Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux, Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Lyon, the Stade Velodrome in Marseille, the Stade de Nice, Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in Saint-Étienne, Parc des Princes in the Paris metro area, and Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes.

The men’s gold-medal game will be played Aug. 9 at noon at Parc des Princes; the bronze-medal game is on Aug. 8 at 11 a.m. in Nantes.
